"Bicycle Fever"

  • Pyramid Scheme 68 Commerce Avenue Southwest Grand Rapids, MI, 49503 United States (map)

By 1895, America was neck-deep in “bicycle fever,” as the safety bicycle evolved from a dangerous and expensive contraption to an easy and affordable way to travel without a horse. In Grand Rapids, bike culture was huge, influencing society and industry and exciting the citizens with races and rides.

Join Grand Rapids Public Library's Colleen Alles as she discusses the culture and climate of Furniture City's obsession with bicycles. View historic, one-of-a-kind primary documents such as photographs, publications, and newspaper articles. This is a free event with doors opening at 6:30 pm and the presentation at 7:30.

Make sure to arrive early to pick your bike as the Pyramid Scheme is about a 3 mile ride away! Use our route directions to "Downtown" and consider using Rapid bus route 11 to return as it will be dark after the presentation and maybe you'll have had a drink or two! And, definitely use promo code IGOTAFEVER for $3 off your rental if you're renting a bike for this event!
